The southern part of Frontenac is close to Highway 401 and is about 250 km east of Toronto. Frontenac's north is accessible by Highway 38 from Kingston or Highway 7 from Ottawa or Peterborough. Frontenac County is also accessible via Highway 41 from the Trans-Canada Highway at Pembroke.
The County of Frontenac celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2015. County Council is made up of eight members, with two representatives from each of the Townships.
The County delivers services including:

- Land use planning for North, Central, and Frontenac Islands Townships
- Geographic information systems (GIS)
- Emergency management
- Social programs
